Download torrent or mirror linux mint

Re: Download mirrors how do tell which one is closest to your location? Post by richyrich » Sat Jun 03, pm When you open and login to the Software Sources program, and click on one of the official mirrors main or base , the Scan window will open.

It may or may not be the closest, but it will be the fastest! Post by JosephM » Sat Jun 03, pm richyrich wrote: When you open and login to the Software Sources program, and click on one of the official mirrors main or base , the Scan window will open.

When I give opinions, they are my own. Not necessarily those of any other Linux Mint developer or the Linux Mint project as a whole. Post by richyrich » Sun Jun 04, am JosephM , thanks for helping out gregoryshock.

Post by jimallyn » Sun Jun 04, am The best way to tell which one is closest is with a map, I suspect. Just pick one, let it download, and do the install. Then you can pick the fastest mirror for updates as richyrich mentioned.

But, as it is, they're only coming for your sons. It should not make much difference in the download speed. If you want to be more precise, Google Search each of the 16 non-obvious mirror sites for its exact server location. What you want is a mirror with a quick connection. So pick simply on of the mirrors from your country, in case of a big country like USA a mirror of your state like California or a neighbor state. If you find, that the download speed is far! The speed of a given mirror can change from day to day, in some cases significantly.

No need to make a drama out of it. Even a slower mirror will serve you after some time. Post by gregoryshock » Fri Jul 21, pm Thanks for your help!

I will try the google thing to see which one is closes in my country. Post by Schultz » Fri Jul 21, pm What country are you in, if you don't mind being asked? The two universities are kinda spread apart, so closest doesn't always equal fastest. Post by I2k4 » Fri Jul 21, pm My experience has been download speed generally has less to do with distance than with how big the mirror site is and how busy it happens to be - applies to both the ISO downloads and to software updates.

As noted above, the download manager will show the current fastest mirror but that's likely in constant flux: and the best site one day or night might be the worst a few days later, so not a great basis for permanent settings.
